KUALA LUMPUR: The Palestine-Israel conflict as well as bilateral cooperation were among the major topics of discussion between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

In a social media posting, Anwar said the in-depth discussion on the conflict in Palestine was unanimous in agreeing that all parties need to play a role to find a solution for the suffering of the Palestinian people.

As such, he said like-minded countries need to cooperate to realise that dream.

"In addition, the meeting also aimed at continuing efforts and strengthening diplomatic ties that have reached 50 years."

He said bilateral cooperation and facilitating investment and higher education were also discussed.

"These matters were then discussed in depth during the meeting with the Qatar Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

"We both agreed and concurred that investment cooperation between the two countries needs to be further enhanced in the years to come.

"May the friendship between Malaysia and Qatar continue to flourish for mutual benefit, Insyaallah," he said.

Currently, Anwar is on a three-day working visit to the Arabian Gulf country where earlier he was accorded an official welcome by the government at the Amiri Diwan.

He earlier arrived in Qatar last night on the invitation of the Emir of Qatar. The visit is being held in conjunction with the 50 years of bilateral relations between Malaysia and Qatar since 1974.
