KUALA LUMPUR: Two-month-old Joshua JL, who suffers from Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and interrupted aortic arch, urgently needs heart surgery.

The baby's ordeal began after his birth on Feb 18 at the Sabah Women and Children's Hospital (HWKKS) in Kota Kinabalu.

His breathing difficulties became apparent three days after his birth, prompting his mother, Rubinah, 37, to seek medical attention. Due to the severity of his condition, he was swiftly referred to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

"I noticed his hard breathing and the abnormal curve of his chest," said Rubinah at Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

Rubinah is seeking financial assistance to pay for the operation, estimated at RM50,000.

Without intervention or surgery, Joshua would have to rely on a breathing machine.

"The news was devastating. We lack the funds, even for the journey," she said.

Rubinah is a housewife while her husband earns RM2,600 monthly from his job in the warehousing and logistics sector.

Those who wish to help Rubinah can send cheques made payable to "Media Prima-NSTP Humanitarian Fund" to the Group Corporate Communications Department, Media Prima Bhd, Level 5, Anjung Riong, Balai Berita, 31, Jalan Riong, 59100 Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, with the patient's name written behind the cheque.

The public may also donate to the Media Prima-NSTP Humanitarian Fund via Bank Muamalat (account number 1401 0008 8427) or Maybank (account number 5141 0532 3170).

Donations to the fund are tax-deductible.
