KUALA KUBU BAHARU: The Election Commission (EC) has lowered its voter turnout target from 75 per cent to 60 per cent for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat by-election today.

Its deputy chairman Professor Azmi Sharom said 60 per cent is a more 'realistic' target after taking into consideration the voter turnout during the state election in Selangor in August last year.

"We had always set a target of 75 per cent in voter turnout.

"However, during the state election (last year), the voter turnout only reached 67 per cent.

"And the voter turnout in every by-election is usually lower than the turnout during the state election," he told reporters after visiting the poling centre at SMK Kuala Kubu Bahru here today.

Azmi added that: "It is good if we can meet 75 per cent (in voter turnout for Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election), who knows…

"But let's look around 60 per cent, which is more realistic," he said.
