PUTRAJAYA: The government will launch its National Anti-Corruption Strategies (NACS) 2024-2028 on Tuesday.

The strategies will focus on the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts, enhancing governance and integrity in public service administration, as well as government-related companies.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said NACS, which will replace the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) 2019-2023, will be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the launch will take place at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Azam added that NACS was a government effort to develop a national strategy to combat corruption in line with Article 5 of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).

Article 5 mandates that UN member nations must produce a document that would be the primary reference for anti-corruption initiatives at the national level.

"The NACP, which ended in 2023, was identified as one of the factors which indirectly aided in the country's success in repairing the country's reputation in terms of our standing in the Corruption Perception Index in 2019, where Malaysia climbed to 51st spot from 61 in 2018.

"Due to this factor, the NACS was developed with an emphasis on five main strategies, namely education, public responsibility, the voice of the people, enforcement and incentives," said Azam.

He said, to ensure the success of NACS, a comprehensive monitoring mechanism will be established by MACC's national governance planning division.

Monitoring and evaluation reports on NACS, he added, would be presented at the National Governance Special Cabinet Committee meeting chaired by the prime minister for endorsement before submission to the cabinet meeting and also Parliament.

Azam said MACC was fully ready to carry out its responsibility in coordinating all the programmes under NACS.

The NACS launch is also expected to be attended by the two deputy prime ministers, ministers, the chief secretary to the government, secretaries-general of various ministries, state government secretaries, government agency directors-general and the heads of government-linked companies.
