CYBERJAYA: An Orang Asli village in Kerling, Selangor, will get Internet access via Starlink until work to connect fibre optic cables to a telecommunications tower is completed next year.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission said in a statement that yesterday it visited the tower, which was erected last year under the Pelan Jalinan Digital Negara (Jendala), to inspect the progress of work to connect the tower to the fibre optic network.

It said the work to connect the cables and full activation of the tower was expected by the first quarted of next year.

MCMC said due to the urgency of getting the village of 250 people connected to the Internet, it would set up a Starlink system, which was expected to be activated by May 8.

MCMC said the Starlink system would offer telecommunication services from three major companies: CelcomDigi, Maxis and U Mobile.
