ALOR STAR: The Kedah Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) says a pregnant cow found dead in Kampung Bukit Lanjut Pendang here last night was not attacked by a tiger but most likely by wild dogs.

Its director, Jamalun Nasir Ibrahim, when contacted, said they had conducted an investigation and found that it was not a tiger attack.

"We received reports regarding the incident and based on our investigation, it is highly likely that it was caused by wild dogs and not a tiger," he said.

Meanwhile, Kampung Bukit Lanjut, Pendang resident Siti Farah Ahmad Nudin, 36, said the incident of her husband's pregnant cow dying last night was shocking for their family.

She said she clearly heard the roar of a tiger around 10.30pm last night.

"The first time we heard the roar, my husband went to the back of the house and shone a light on the cow before finding the heavily pregnant cow dead with many blood stains.

"But after hearing the tiger roar a second time, we immediately went inside the house and locked the door out of fear," she said.

Siti Farah said many of their pet cats had gone missing before and they suspected they were eaten by tigers due to the nearby forest location to their house.

She said they suffered losses of almost RM6,000 after the pregnant cow died.

The media previously reported that a pregnant cow was found dead believed to have been attacked by a tiger in Kampung Bukit Lanjut, here, last midnight.

Pendang district Civil Defence Officer, Lieutenant (PA) Yuslina Yusof, said they received information about the incident at 12:21 in the morning.

She said a team of three members from APM Pendang arrived at the location shortly after.
