KANGAR: Perlis Menteri Besar, Mohd Shukri Ramli is a transparent leader in managing public assets, says the Perlis mufti.
Perlis mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, in a Facebook status said Shukri's transparency and openness during his winding up speech at the State Assembly sitting today that the latter's son should face the music if found guilty in the RM600,000 false claims scandal probe, is highly commendable.
"Shukri's statement concerning the issue involving his family member and officers should be commended.
"I know that it is not easy for him to face this situation and I don't know his son and the officer that is being investigated, since I only know him (Shukri) as the Perlis Menteri Besar.
"I believe (Allah knows the truth that) he personally is a person who is transparent in managing public assets," Asri said in the posting.
He added that that was just based on his observation and Allah knows best.
"We pray that everything will proceed fairly for all parties," he said.
Earlier today, Kangar magistrate's court granted a one-day remand extension against the son of Perlis Menteri Besar and four others detained in a probe over a false claim involving RM60,000.
Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor granted the remand extension requested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) team from Putrajaya this morning after their initial remand order expired today.
An MACC source said one suspect attached to the State Secretary office as a technician assistant in his 20s, was released today.
Yesterday, it was reported that the son of Perlis Menteri Besar, who is also the son-in-law to Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, were among six individuals remanded by MACC to facilitate investigation into a document forgery in submitting a false claim amounting to RM600,000.
It involved infrastructure projects such as repairs, maintenance, supply and services all over Perlis from 2022 until recently, which mostly involved false claims for jobs that were not delivered.
In response to the probe, Shukri told the state assembly today that his son should bear the consequences if found guilty and he does not harbour any suspicion against MACC for carrying out the investigation.
