LUMUT: The wreckage of two Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) helicopters that crashed at the Lumut naval base on Tuesday has been relocated from the crash site today.

An internal source from RMN, when contacted by Harian Metro, said that the work to transfer the wreckage and debris of the Fennec aircraft (M502-6) that crashed into the Navy Sports Complex swimming pool and the HOM aircraft (M503-3) at the Navy Stadium was completed around 4.30pm today.

According to the source, the wreckage of both helicopters has been placed in a special area within the Lumut naval base to facilitate the investigation process.

"These RMN assets are kept within the base for ease of inspection, and based on the incident, there may be cross-checks or simulations that need to be conducted on the aircraft," the source said.

Yesterday, the media reported that a preliminary report on the tragedy that claimed the lives of 10 navy personnel would be prepared within two weeks, while the full report would be published or prepared within a month.

The incident, which occurred at 9.32am on April 23, killed all 10 on board both aircraft.

The helicopters collided during a mid-air manoeuvre in a flypast rehearsal for the RMN's 90th anniversary celebrations.

The RMN has established an investigation board to probe the incident.
