SHAH ALAM: A voting centre for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election will close early at 2pm on polling day, May 11, due to its small number of 40 voters.

The centre is located at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Bukit Fraser, Jalan Padang, Hulu Selangor.

Akademi Pilihan Raya strategic communication assistant director Nomi Juliana Mohd Redzuan Min said it is one of three voting centres in the Pertak district of Kuala Kubu Baharu.

"Even if all 40 voters have cast their ballots, the centre will still be closed at 2pm as instructed.

"After 2pm, the gate will close and by-election officers will immediately start counting the votes," she said in a media briefing for the N.06 by-election.

She added that the Election Commission has assigned 760 officers to accomodate the by-election processes.

Overall, the Pertak district only recorded 418 registered voters.

Another two voting centres will be located at Kampung Pertak Children's Education and Nutrition Development Centre with 179 voters and Kampung Gerachi Jaya Kemas Kindergarten with 199 voters.

Meanwhile, the Bandar Utama Batang Kali district saw the highest number of voters at 9,072.

There are a total of 40,226 registered voters in the Kuala Kubu Baharu constituency, of which 39,363 are regular voters, 238 armed forces members and their spouses while 625 are police personnel and their spouses.

Adult constituents aged 21 to 59 will make up the highest number of voters with 30,025 or 74.64 per cent.

This is followed by senior citizens aged 60 and above, with 6,963 voters and youth aged 18 to 20 with 3,238 voters.

The by-election is being held following the death of its three-term assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong from the DAP.

Lee died on March 21 after a battle with cancer.

She first won her seat in 2013 after defeating MCA's Ooi Hui Wen with a 1,702-vote majority, and defended it in 2018 with a 7,134-vote majority over MCA's Wong Koon Mun.
