KUALA LUMPUR: The need for any standard operating procedure (SOP) changes to fly-past rehearsals will depends on investigations into the helicopter crash at the Lumut Royal Malaysian Navy base that saw 10 killed.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the ministry would learn from the incident but would wait for the results of the probe.
"We will wait for the report on the investigation and from there, we will take the appropriate actions in regards to the SOP so that such an incident doesn't happen again.
"The board of inquiry will be formed and they will then look at whether there is a need for more people to be roped in to assist investigations so that we get to the bottom of things," he told reporters at the Armed Forces Hari Raya celebration here.
Present were Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Mohammad Abd Rahman and other senior armed forces officers.
Khaled said the ministry would request assistance from anyone it deemed would be able to help the investigation.
"There is nothing that will be hidden," he said.
He also thanked all those who had shown concern and offered their condolences following the incident.
On Tuesday, 10 RMN personnel lost their lives when two of the navy's helicopters collided while rehearsing a fly-past for the 90th Navy Day celebrations.
Seven of them were on board a AgustaWestland AW139 Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM) from the 503 Squadron and the rest were aboard a 502 Squadron Fennec AS 555.
Those who perished were identified as Commander Muhamad Amir Mohamad, Lieutenant Sivasutan Thanjappan, Warrant Officer II Mohd Shahrizan Mohd Termizi (all of whom were aboard the Fennec), Commander Muhammad Firdaus Ramli, Lieutenant Commander Wan Rezaudeen Kamal Wan Zainal Abidin, Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Amirulfaris Mohamad, Warrant Officer II Muhammad Faisol Tamadun, Chief Petty Officer Joanna Felicia Rohna, Warrant Officer II Noorfarahimi Mohd Saedy and Petty Officer Noor Rahiza Anuar.
