KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government should adopt a more strategic approach to fostering cooperation with the federal government in financial planning and economic development, the Terengganu State Assembly was told today (April 24).

Azmi Maarof (PAS-Langkap) said this has been proven in the previous administration, which witnessed considerable success achieved by Terengganu through this close cooperation approach.

"I am confident that the Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar), with all his diplomacy and methods, will continue to foster cooperation between the two parties," he said.

He said this when debating the motion of thanks on the royal address of the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, at the state assembly.

Meanwhile, Zaharuddin Zahid (PAS-Bukit Tunggal) said the party's main focus when entrusted with governance, whether at the federal or state level, is to administer and drive the country together to a higher level.

"As mentioned by the Sultan, His Royal Highness wants engagements between the state and federal governments to achieve a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of between 3.5 and 4.1 per cent.

"What needs to be emphasised is the necessity for mutual respect between the state and federal governments when engaging in efforts to advance the state and the country according to their respective powers and limits," he said.

Sultan Mizan, in his address opening the Second Session of the 15th State Assembly, suggested that the state government take a comprehensive approach to planning effective financial management, including strengthening cooperation with the federal government.

His Royal Highness said that through cooperation with the federal government, the state government should develop comprehensive short-term, medium-term and long-term strategies together with federal departments and agencies in the state.

Sultan Mizan said this encompasses planning for proposed high-impact projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), which will end next year, and the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) starting in 2026. — BERNAMA
