SHAH ALAM: Five civil servants from a local authority have been remanded for three days by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes of between RM3,000 and RM15,000.

Sources said the four male suspects and one female, aged between 30 and 40, were believed to be involved in the acts as inducement not to impose deductions on monthly claims for cleansing works contracts.

They were arrested at about 3pm yesterday when they had their statements recorded at the Selangor MACC headquarters.

Magistrate Muhammad Syafiq Sulaiman granted the remand order against them from today until April 26.

"Initial investigations found they had committed the offence between 2018 and 2020 and the monies received were transferred to their personal accounts.

"The monies were inducement not to impose deductions on the Notice To Correct document of a private cleansing company for works conducted around Shah Alam," said the source.

Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim confirmed the arrests, adding that investigations were being conducted under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
