KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a civil servant on suspicion of soliciting and accepting about RM16,000 in bribes for the approval of groundbreaking at one of the district and land offices in the state.

Sources said the suspect, a woman in her 40s, was arrested about 2pm yesterday at the MACC Kuala Selangor branch office when she came in for questioning.

"The suspect is believed to have asked for and received a bribe from three landowners around the district who wanted to apply for land groundbreaking approval.

"Preliminary investigations found that the suspect had requested and received a bribe of RM16,000, which was deposited into her personal bank account in 2022," said the source.

Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.

He said the suspect would be brought for a remand application at the Kuala Selangor magistrate's court, Selangor, tomorrow.
