KUALA LUMPUR: One officer sustained light injuries after being hit by debris at the swimming pool in the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base in Lumut where one of two armed forces helicopters crashed earlier today.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin said the victim was swimming in the pool when the incident happened.

"One of the helicopters, the 503-3 Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM) had crashed in the stadium while the other one, Fennec M502-6 crashed in the swimming pool.

"All the 10 victims had perished and one officer sustained light injuries as he was in the swimming pool at that time.

"There were no other injuries sustained by other parties except for the officer who was in the swimming pool who had been hit by the debris of the Fennec," he said at a press conference held at the RMN base in Lumut, Perak.

Earlier today, two armed forces helicopters crashed following a mid-air collision over the naval base in Lumut, Perak.

All 10 crew members on board both helicopters perished.

Their remains will be brought to Hospital Ipoh, Perak for a post-mortem examination.

The helicopters had collided during a mid-air manoeuvre during a flypast training for the RMN 90th Anniversary celebrations.

The RMN has established an investigation board to investigate the incident.
