BINTULU: Sarawak's Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom has highlighted the role of Village Development and Security Committee (KMKK) leaders in safeguarding the legal and customary well-being of communities, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

"The times have changed compared to the past. In the traditional longhouse administration structure, the chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee was the Head of the House.

"The government has also provided allowances to secretaries. Therefore, a secretary must know how to write and read.

"This is because minutes must be prepared for every meeting held at the longhouse," he said during a speech at the Appreciation Dinner in Bintulu on Saturday.

The minister urged new leaders to consider the vast experience of their predecessors as a valuable resource. He also stressed the importance of fostering unity across all races and religions to ensure the prosperity and stability of community development.
