PASIR PUTEH: A 28-year-old angler who went missing while fishing yesterday was found alive in Tumpat waters today.

State Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Maritime Captain Erwan Shah Soahdi said Muhamad Nursyarif Mat Nasir was found by a local fishing boat at about 10.30am.

"A few fishermen spotted a man swimming in front of their boat and immediately approached him.

"The man was extremely weak and appeared lifeless when the fishermen rescued him from the sea.

"The fishermen then alerted the authorities," he said in a statement.

Erwan said the man was found about five nautical miles off Tumpat waters.

He said the man was later taken to the Kuala Besar jetty before being rushed to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Bharu for treatment.

It was reported that a 28-year-old man is feared to have drowned after falling out of his boat while fishing off Pantai Mek Mas, near Kedai Buloh yesterday.

Kota Baru fire station operations chief Mazlan Muhamad said the Fire and Rescue Department received a report regarding the incident about 7.15pm.

It is believed that the man had gone fishing at around 2pm.
