JOHOR BARU: Two police officers who were detained in connection with an extortion case involving the public at Sultan Ismail Building (BSI) have returned to duty until a work suspension order is issued.

Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief, assistant commissioner Raub Selamat said the remand order for both police expired today.

He said they have now resumed duty under the Johor contingent, as there is still no work suspension order in place.

"They have returned to duty until there is a work suspension order issued against them," he said when contacted today.

Yesterday, the Johor police stated that they would submit a letter to Bukit Aman to obtain a work suspension order against two police officers involved in two extortion cases at BSI here.

On April 5, two police officers stationed at BSI were detained for allegedly extorting a victim by demanding RM2,000 to avoid taking action due to their previous criminal record in an incident earlier this month.

They were detained again last Saturday following a complaint lodged by a 50-year-old victim who claimed to have been threatened by both suspects at BSI on Jan 4.
