ALOR STAR: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has advised opposition members of parliament to engage in discussions on government allocations with the unity government as statesmen rather than politicians.

Sanusi, who is Perikatan Nasional election director, stressed that opposition MPs must carefully scrutinise the draft of the memorandum of understanding proposed by the unity government on the matter, especially now that election processes have concluded.

"(Opposition) MPs should discuss this matter as statesmen, not based on partisan relations... election processes are over, we have our own coats, federal and state governments.

"The MPs must act on that platform. Do not act based on narrow-minded political lenses. If there are any suggestions (during negotiations), express them properly, don't just think of your own party," he told reporters.

On Thursday, the unity government secretariat essentially agreed to consider channelling allocations to opposition MPs.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof had said the decision was reached during a meeting in Sri Perdana, the prime minister's official residence in Putrajaya, on Wednesday.

In this regard, he had said, an MoU would be drafted first and would then be extended to the opposition as a step for further negotiations.

Meanwhile, Sanusi said he hoped the unity government would not impose any conditions for the allocation of funds to opposition MPs.

"I hope there won't be any conditions... all MPs who have been entrusted by the voters should be treated fairly regardless of who they are," he added.

On Friday, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim clarified that supporting him as prime minister was not a precondition for MPs to receive allocations, underlining the government's focus on stability and economic progress.

However, Anwar did not disclose the specific requirements outlined in the draft MoU, which will be presented to the opposition for negotiation.
