KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans' long-awaited accessible and quality heart treatment facilities finally come to fruition.

Society for the Sabah Heart Fund president, Datuk Eva Susau, said it was a relief to hear the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that the Sabah National Heart Centre will be set up at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital here.

"This timely announcement brings immense relief to countless individuals who previously had to endure the inconvenience and financial burden of travelling long distances for essential medical care," said Eva.

Anwar made the announcement during the national-level Madani Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre, where he stated that RM80 million will be allocated by the federal government to set up the heart centre.

The society expressed its gratitude to the Prime Minister for the groundbreaking decision, marking a significant leap forward in the state's healthcare infrastructure.

"The society has been relentlessly lobbying and advocating for a heart centre and thrilled to witness the fruition of our collective endeavors," said Eva.

With the establishment of the heart centre in Sabah, she said the communities can now access specialised cardiac services without the need for extensive travel, ensuring prompt and effective treatment for heart-related conditions.

The society commended the Prime Minister and the Malaysian government's foresightedness and dedication in prioritising the healthcare needs of Sabahans.

"This monumental initiative will undoubtedly alleviate the burden on existing healthcare facilities while improving the overall health outcomes and quality of life for our citizens," she said.

The Sabah Heart Fund will give its full support and cooperation to ensure the successful establishment and operation of the Sabah National Heart Centre, she said.
