JOHOR BARU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim paid tribute to statesman Tun Musa Hitam, who is celebrating his 90th birthday today.

Musa, born on April 18, 1932, served as the country's fifth Deputy Prime Minister from 1981 to 1986 under then-Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

 

Earlier, Anwar, who is also the finance minister, arrived at Senai International Airport at 12.10pm.

He then chaired a special meeting on Johor's state development in Iskandar Puteri here.

After that, he attended a lunch to celebrate Musa's birthday, which was also attended by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and state leadership.

He said Musa is a highly respected leader with high integrity.

"Welcoming and celebrating statesman Tun Musa Hitam and his wife in Johor Baru. Tun Musa commemorates his 90th birthday today. Alhamdulillah, he is still an influential figure.

 

"Musa was a former deputy minister, known for his firm figure with principles and integrity.

 

"He is a determined character in strengthening unity among the multicultural people.

"I wish Tun Musa Hitam a happy birthday. May Tun remain healthy and continue to play a role in fostering unity among the people," said Anwar in a post on his Facebook.

 

Anwar is scheduled to attend the Johor state-level Madani Aidilfitri Open House 2024 at Angsana Johor Baru Mall today, held from 5pm to 7pm.

 

The prime minister is also set to attend Madani Aidilfitri open houses in Sabah, Melaka, Kelantan, Kedah, Penang and Terengganu between today (April 18) and May 9.
