TONGOD: Four villages in Karamuak have received an allocation of RM450,000 to implement basic rural development projects, Sabah Media reported.

The allocations were announced by Kamut representative Datuk Masiung Banah during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at Dewan Kuala Karamuak.

The funding, provided through the State Legislative Assembly, will be used primarily for the repair of three community halls.

"The community halls at Kampung Kuala Karamuak and Tenaga Baru will receive RM150,000 each, while RM100,000 will be used for the maintenance of the open hall at Kampung Karamuak Dalam," Masiung said.

An additional RM50,000 will be allocated for the construction of public toilets and a shelter for the Team Aki Karamuak, who manage wild elephant groups in the area.

Additionally, the State Disaster Management Committee has approved a further RM800,000 to supply water tanks to residents affected by water supply issues across the Tongod district, including the villages within Karamua.

"Each drought-affected village will receive 10 tanks placed in a central location for residents to access water supplied by the Sabah Water Department," Masiung said, adding that these rural infrastructure projects are set to commence at the beginning of May.
