KOTA BARU: Pas will organise a state-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house on a smaller scale this year, in line with the government's call for moderate celebrations.

State Pas secretary Wan Roslan Wan Hamat said the open house would be held on Thursday (April 18) at Dataran Warisan near Sultan Muhamad IV stadium.

He said about 50,000 people were expected to attend the event, which would begin at 10.30am and end at 2pm.

"The state government did not allocate any funds for this open house. Our parliamentarians and state assemblymen are told to sponsor the food for the guests.

"They are also told to spend wisely, in the line with the government's call for prudence."

Wan Roslan said various traditional food would be served including nasi dagang, nasi lemak and satay.

He added that several top party leaders were expected to attend the open house.

On April 1, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he would not be organising any Hari Raya Aidilfitri event at Seri Perdana this year.

Instead, Anwar said he would attend events at the states organised by ministers.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, also reminded government agencies to be prudent in organising Hari Raya celebrations.

He said they must be wise in spending public funds.
