KULIM: A Toyota Alphard driver and his elderly mother were killed after their vehicle crashed with a lorry in Jalan Permatang Kerat Telunjuk here yesterday evening.

Bandar Baharu police chief Deputy Superintendent Azmi Mokhtar said both victims were killed on the spot while four other passengers in the multipurpose vehicle (MPV) survived with minor injuries.

Azmi said during the 8pm incident the 55-year-old driver was travelling from Serdang towards Bandar Baharu.

"Upon reaching the scene, their vehicles had swerved into the opposite lane before gracing with the lorry travelling from Bandar Baharu towards Serdang causing the Toyota Alphard to

crash on the left side of the road.

"Following the crash, the 55-year-old driver and his 85-year-old mother were killed on the spot," he said in a statement today.

Azmi said the bodies were sent to Kulim Hospital for a post-mortem while the other four passengers were given outpatient treatment for minor injuries.

He added that police have detained the lorry driver for further investigation and the case has been classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
