LIPIS: Motorists traveling along the Central Spine Road between Padang Tengku and Merapoh near here have been urged to dispose of their trash properly, following reports of littering along the expressway.
Pahang Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) director Sharudin Hamid expressed concern over the sight of piles of garbage discarded along the four-lane dual-carriageway, including plastic bottles, polystyrene containers, and aluminium drink cans.
He noted that among the litter found were two urine-filled bottles, which should have been disposed of in a proper manner instead of being thrown onto the roadside.
"The person responsible should have kept the bottle and only disposed it at a proper place.
"Our team noticed that motorists tend to stop their vehicles at sections with street lamps, and it's only those areas that are covered with rubbish. Perhaps, the road users stop to rest and have a meal before continuing their journey. However, instead of collecting and keeping the trash in a plastic bag in their vehicle, they choose to discard it on the road shoulder," he added.
Sharudin reminded road users of the importance of keeping the road clean for the safety of all road users, especially villagers from nearby settlements who travel along the route on motorcycles.
He added that waste bins have been placed along the road, in the hope that motorists will use them instead of littering.
There are currently no rest stops or petrol stations along the toll-free CSR.
Last month when opening the Raub bypass, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the Pahang government had submitted a proposal to build a Rest and Recreation (R&R) stop along the CSR near Bentong and the ministry was studying the matter.
