KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will not hesitate to take action against any party attempting to exploit the shoe logo issue alleged to resemble the word 'Allah' and cause tension in society.
In a statement today, MCMC also asked anyone with any information on the matter to report to relevant authorities, including the police.
"Following the statement by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) (Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar), MCMC urges any parties who have the information relating to the shoe logo alleged to resemble the word 'Allah' to report it to the authorities, including the police.
"We also will not hesitate to take action under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 should any party attempt to exploit the issue, including making comments that exceed boundaries and can cause tension in society.
"All parties are also required to allow the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and the authorities to investigate the claim," the statement read.
MCMC also reminded the public to not upload or share social media content that touches on the sensitivities of 3R (race, royalty and religion).
It was previously reported that a post showing a shoe logo alleged to resemble the word 'Allah' had made rounds on social media platforms.
Following this, Na'im instructed Jakim to call up the relevant quarters and summon those responsible for the shoes to clarify the issue.
Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said eight police reports have been received so far nationwide regarding the issue.
An investigation paper has also been opened to probe the matter under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
