KUALA LUMPUR: A man drowned while trying to rescue his father who fell into a river near Jalan Klang Lama, here, yesterday.

The Fire and Rescue Department said the body of the 21-year-old was found at 12.59pm.

Operations commander Mohamad Iqbal Zakaria said teams from the Bukit Jalil and Hang Tuah fire stations rushed to the scene, near the Avant Court condominium, after receiving a distress call at 11am.

"The search was carried out by the water rescue team from the riverbank to the middle of the river, which is between one and three metres deep.

"The body of the victim was found at 12.59pm, and was given to the police," Iqbal said in a statement today.

The department told the New Straits Times Press later that the father is safe.
