KUALA LUMPUR: The newly-formed Palestinian government headed by Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa is described as technocratic with its only focus on looking after all Palestinians regardless of their political affiliation.

Palestinian ambassador to Malaysia Walid Abu Ali said the government's main agenda is to put an end to the suffering of its people.

"It is not a Hamas government or a Fatah (political party) government, it's a Palestinian government.

"Cabinet members represent the geographies of Gaza, West Bank and Al-Quds as the capital. So this government hopefully will look after Palestinians and the Palestinian diaspora," said Walid on NST's Beyond the Headlines.

The key priorities of the newly-formed Palestinian government under Mustafa, said Walid, is driven to end the aggression in Gaza, addressing basic humanitarian needs and ensuring the wellbeing of Palestinians across territories occupied by Israel.

"Rebuilding Gaza will come after and it is the responsibility of the international community to work with the Palestinian government to rebuild what has been damaged."

He added Palestinians deserve to be treated fairly and they deserve to have their own democratic state.

"The forms of suffering experienced by Palestinians are felt throughout Gaza, West Bank, Jerusalem and what is called 'Israel' — discrimination, siege and occupation.

"We deserve to have our own freedom and enjoy peace in our own land," stressed Walid.

The new Palestinian government headed by Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa was sworn in on March 31.

The new government consists of 23 ministerial portfolios, including at least six ministers from the Gaza Strip. Mustafa will also take over the position of Foreign Minister from veteran diplomat Riyad Al-Maliki.

During the swearing-in ceremony in front of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Mustafa pledged that his new government would serve all Palestinians, stressing the government's political references are the Palestine Liberation Organisation and its political programme and international commitments, as mandated by the letter of assignment outlined by Abbas.
