Instagram has implemented a default setting that limits political content from accounts its users do not follow.

This affects what appears on the explore page, reels, feed recommendations, and suggested users.

As a result, users will now encounter less political content on the social media platform.

Instagram has clarified that this setting does not impact the visibility of political content from accounts users already follow.

To continue seeing recommended politics-related posts, users can opt out of the default limitation by adjusting their settings:

1. Tap the three lines at the top right of your profile page.
2. Scroll to "suggested content/content preferences".
3. Select "political content".
4. Switch to "don't limit."

Meanwhile, Instagram's parent company, Meta Platforms Inc, continues to face allegations of silencing pro-Palestine voices on its social platforms during Israel's ongoing assault on Gaza.

Between October and November 2023, Human Rights Watch reportedly documented over 1,050 takedowns and other forms of suppression of content on Instagram and Facebook.
