KUALA LUMPUR: The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has reminded the public not to fly drones without approval over highways as well as at the sites of road accidents during the festive season.

In a posting on Facebook today, CAAM said this is to ensure the safety of aircraft operated by authorities such as the police and other security agencies that are actively monitoring traffic from air, especially during the Hari Raya holidays.

"It also aims to prevent any disruption from the public towards the authorities, especially in the event of road accidents which may interfere with investigations.

"CAAM also seeks the public's cooperation to report any individuals operating drones without permission and posing a risk to public safety or property by emailing complaints and information to [email protected]," it said.

It added that stern action can be taken under Section 4 of the Civil Aviation Act 1969 (Act 3); Regulations 98, Regulations 140-144, Malaysian Civil Aviation Regulations and Civil Aviation Directives (CADs).

It was reported that over two million vehicles are expected to be on major highways during the Hari Raya holidays.

The Works Ministry said the projected increase in vehicle traffic would be high on peak days, specifically on April 5, 6, 9, 12, 13 and 14.

It said the projected traffic figure represents a 15 per cent increase compared with the usual 1.82 million daily traffic volume.
