PUTRAJAYA: Some members of parliament have voiced their objections against the targeted subsidies and pension scheme restructuring, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Slamming those who questioned the government's move to rationalise subsidies, he said, some of them even unabashedly admitted that they are from the bottom 40 (B40) income group when they earn tens of thousands of ringgit.
"Which continent are they from?
"I'm not saying that I'm perfect and I'm trying to correct the past mistakes.
"I have never denied that we're still facing the cost of living challenges but we're doing our best (and) fighting cartels," he said in his speech at the Finance Ministry's monthly assembly today.
The Economy Ministry had said yesterday that it will present a revised targeted subsidy plan to the cabinet some time this month.
Anwar had also said in January that a review on the pension scheme would also apply to politicians.
However, the proposed pension restructuring drew mixed reactions from many, including elected representatives.
While some of them had volunteered to give them up or only keep a single pension, others objected to the plan, saying that they deserved the remuneration for their contributions to the people.
