SERDANG: "I told my wife to stop fishing as we had already caught plenty of fish, but she refused," said Ahmad Suriady, 40.

Ahmad is among the two who survived in a water surge incident in a river in Jalan KP 4/9 Kota Perdana here yesterday afternoon.

He said the incident claimed his wife and two children, while another is still missing, swept away by the strong currents.

He said the incident happened very quickly when he and his family were fishing in the area.

"We left our house in Pinggiran Putra at 3pm. We had been fishing for a while and already caught plenty of fish.

"I asked my wife to go home, but she asked me to continue fishing. This was just before the strong currents suddenly came.

"I shouted for them to save themselves, but some slipped and were swept away by the currents," he said when met here today.

Ahmad Suriady, who is originally from Lombok, Indonesia, said this is the first time he and his family have gone fishing in that area.

"I didn't expect it to end like this, I am now discussing with the family about the burial process.

"I also hope my youngest child, who is four years old and still missing, will be found safe," he said.

Earlier, Serdang district Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner AA Anbalagan, said they received information about the discovery of a woman's body around 12.17pm today.

He said the body was found at D'Island Mine near Taman Lacattage, Putra Perdana, about 10 kilometres from the location of the incident.

"At 1.20 pm, the body was already removed from the site. The search for the victim's child (aged four) is still ongoing," he said.
