MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has extinguished a peat soil fire on 5.5 square kilometres area in Sungai Adong here yesterday using its Bombardier CL-415 aircraft.

Miri Maritime Zone director Maritime Captain Mohd Shafie Paing said a total of 120,000 litres of water was used to extinguish the fire.

He said the water was sourced from Sungai Kuala Baram which is located 10 km from the fire area.

"Following the success of this operation, MMEA aircraft have resumed extinguishing operation in the area for the fourth day this morning," he said in a statement today.

The fire extinguishing operation is being carried out with the involvement of various departments and agencies, including private companies. – Bernama
