KUALA LUMPUR: An elderly man was found dead after getting lost while hiking on a hill near Persiaran Shorea in Section U16 Shah Alam.

Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said in a statement that the 64-year-old man was found dead by members of the public at 7.50pm today following a search and rescue effort.

The man had earlier contacted his son after getting lost yesterday.

"The victim began hiking the hill alone on March 26 at 9.30am, and contacted his son at 3.43pm after failing to find his way back," said Iqbal. 

He added that search and rescue efforts were carried out by the Fire and Rescue Department and the Bukit Jelutong Rescue Team. 

Iqbal said that the victim's body has been sent to Shah Alam Hospital for further action.

He added that the case has been classified as sudden death and urged members of the public with information related to the case to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Saipol Paizi, at 012-5781435.
