KUALA LUMPUR: Rantau Panjang member of parliament Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff and her daughter were injured in a traffic accident at Jalan Bukit Antarabangsa on Sunday.

The 5pm incident took place when a Totoya Hilux, which was carrying Zailah and three other family members, were on their way to Puchong to attend a breaking of fast event.

Ampang Jaya district police chief assistant commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail, in a statement, said during heavy rain, the pickup truck was negotiating a corner when another car, a Mazda, suddenly entered their lane from the front.

The pickup truck, unable to swerve in time, crashed into the car.

"Both vehicles were damaged in the incident. All the injured victims were taken to the Ampang Hospital for further treatment," he said.

Azam said all victims only sustained light injuries and were released from the hospital the same day.

Siti Zailah, who is former deputy women, family and community development minister, also shared the harrowing incident on her Facebook page.

She said they were on their way to attend a 'buka puasa' event with orphans at a tahfiz school in Puchong when the incident occurred.

"Another car, which appeared to be speeding, came from the opposite direction and encroached into our lane.

"We couldn't avoid it and crashed. Alhamdulillah, thanks to the various help and prayers, we were safe.

"An ambulance came 20 minutes later and took us to the hospital," she wrote.

Zalilah said she still has pain in her thigh but was fortunate that it wasn't broken.

"My daughter had a fractured finger as well as a fracture at the foot."

Police are calling for witnesses to come forward and provide information on the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
