GEORGE TOWN: Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) today announced the return of the Penang Hill free shuttle service.

After a series of successful launches since last year, PHC is set to extend this service to Penang Hill visitors for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

PHC, in a statement, said the main objective was to ease traffic congestion in the surrounding areas and promote a green initiative to lower carbon emissions in the Air Itam area.

It said the complimentary shuttle service would operate from April 10 to April 14.

"Operating from 9am to 9pm, it will offer eight daily trips in both directions at intervals of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

"The shuttle bus is designed to be wheelchair-friendly.

"Passengers can conveniently board the shuttle service at the bus stop on Jalan Ria to reach Penang Hill lower station, and vice versa.

"Identifying the shuttle bus is easy as it will be clearly marked "Penang Hill Free Shuttle Service" at the two pick-up or drop-off points. These are Station 9 at Komtar, located at bus stop Jalan Ria (underpass next to Rapid Penang kiosk), and the bus stop at Penang Hill lower station," it said.

Should the shuttle bus reach maximum capacity, PHC said visitors were encouraged to use the existing Rapid bus number 204 at a regular rate to reach Penang Hill.

Visitors can also use GrabCar with the promo code 'GRAB2PGHILL', which is valued at RM5 each and allows a maximum of two redemptions per user.

"In anticipation of increased visitors during the Hari Raya holidays, the Penang Hill free shuttle service aims to address the challenge of limited parking.

"With fewer than 500 spaces available at the Penang Hill multi-storey car park and its surrounding areas, coupled with the issue of roadside overparking, the service will help to mitigate traffic congestion."

PHC encouraged visitors to make the most of this free shuttle service during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday, aligning with their commitment to creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly Penang.

The free shuttle service is in collaboration with Rapid Penang.
