KUANTAN: A student here claims his teacher caned him more than 10 times on his back for not attending 'Tarawih' prayers with his friends.

The 18-year-old vocational college student, who said he suffered injuries, lodged a police report on Saturday.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the boy was told to undergo a medical examination.

"Police have recorded statements from three individuals to date. We are waiting for the victim's medical report on the incident," he said at the state-level 217th Police Day celebration at the Police Logistics Complex in Alor Akar here today.

Yahaya said only one police report has been lodged on the incident, which occurred on Friday.

He also said police have identified 25 "black spots" (accident-prone areas) in Pahang and advised road users to take extra precautions when returning to their hometowns for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

"We anticipate an increase in traffic along these routes and the department will station officers there. Police will conduct 'Op Lancar' to ensure smooth traffic during the festive holidays.

"Traffic congestion is expected along the East Coast Expressway and Central Spine Road between Bentong and Raub. The 'balik kampung' rush will begin on April 5 onwards (before Aidilfitri) and after the celebrations on April 13 and 14," he said.
