GEORGE TOWN: Former DAP leader Dr P.Ramasamy today questioned why Umno had no problem working with PKR and DAP, when it had no qualms condemning Bersatu as a party of traitors.

He raised this poser Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail called him a traitor for resigning from the DAP last August, just before the state elections.

Wan Rosdy had said this in response to Ramasamy's recent statement where he questioned the credibility of Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in calling Bersatu as a party of traitors.

Wan Rosdy said he felt it was wiser for Ramasamy to remain silent and enjoy his retirement rather than commenting on betrayal because Ramasamy himself is a traitor.

The Pahang menteri besar likened Ramasamy's action to Malay proverb "meludah ke langit, akhirnya jatuh ke muka sendiri" which literally means "if you spit to the sky, it will eventually fall back on your face" as the former Penang deputy chief minister had previously turned his back on DAP.

Responding, Ramasamy said he merely said that Asyraf should be careful in what he was saying because of Umno's present political association with the PKR and the DAP in Pakatan Harapan.

He said, once, the two political parties were the mortal enemies of Umno, but today it was the exact opposite.

"Due to the needs of political power and to address the sagging support of the Malays, Umno has no qualms of having a political cooperation with PKR and the DAP.

"Whatever happened to Umno leaders who had earlier often repeated political slogans such as 'DAP the enemy of Malays'?

"Today, the DAP has given up its multi-racial stand to pursue power, positions and perks (3Ps). In this context, cooperation with Umno, the most politically tainted party in the country, is not a problem for the DAP or PKR.

"As I pointed to Asraf, how come Umno has no problem in working with PKR, another offshoot of Umno like Bersatu. If Bersatu can be condemned as a party of traitors, shouldn't the same thing be said of PKR.

"However, hypocrisy and greed for power prevents Umno leaders from alienating PKR because its president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the prime minister of the country," he said today.

Elaborating, Ramasamy said Anwar was once an Umno member and deputy president before he was sacked from the party.

"The biggest betrayal of Umno is none other than completely marginalising the political role of the MCA and the MIC in the Barisan Nasional coalition.

"Today, the coalition exists in name only. Umno has taken over or reduced the role of the coalition to nothing.

"MCA and MIC parties that stood thick and thin with Umno have been completely swept aside. Isn't this one of the greatest betrayals of Umno.

"Yes, Wan Rosdy can call a me traitor for resigning from the DAP. Coming from a member of the most tainted party in the country, such a labelling is an honour to me and to my political role in the country," he added.

He further questioned how Umno that condemned and ridiculed the DAP over decades as the number one enemy of Malays and Islam was suddenly a good political buddy of the DAP.

"Wan Rosdy calling me a traitor is as big an honour when the former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad called me a racist.

"The performance of Umno in the country is like how the candle flares up just before it is extinguished forever.

"Umno is trying its best to win back the lost support of the Malays. Malays, who once were loyal to Umno, have deserted the party in droves to support Bersatu and Pas.

"It would be near impossible for Umno to become the champions of the Malay race. Pas and Bersatu have come to fulfill the role that Umno had once.
