KOTA KINABALU: Twelve undocumented migrants were detained in an integrated operation at three locations here yesterday.

The 12-hour operation starting at 9am was carried out by the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters and six other agencies, involving 125 officers and members.

The agencies involved were the National Registration Department, People's Volunteer Corps, Civil Defence Force, Chief Minister's Department, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd and Sabah Land and Survey Department.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the raids were conducted in Kampung Lokub, the residential area of the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park and Indah Permai.

He said initially, 33 people were detained, but only 12 were taken into custody after failing to produce valid identification documents.

"Six men and six women were detained, involving nine Filipinos, two Indonesians and one Pakistani.

"The detainees were taken to the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters for documentation by the Special Branch, National Registration Department and Chief Minister's Department," he said today.

Zaidi said once documentation was completed, the detainees would be referred to the Crime Investigation Department for investigation under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1956.

He said the Sabah Land and Survey Department demolished 15 undocumented migrants' homes after confirming they were built on land belonging to UiTM.

He said the team also seized illegal electrical cables used to make unauthorised connections.
