KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said there were not many details discussed yet about the proposed Trans Borneo Railway in the Bornean region.

The state public works minister was referring to graphics of the proposed railway system being circulated on social media.

According to the origin of the maps at brunergyutama.com, the proposed route for the first phase of construction will aim to connect the economic powerhouses of the western coastline cities to the east, starting at Pontianak, West Kalimantan, and ending at Kota Kinabalu here.

"I noticed it came up on social media yesterday and was shared by many people.

"So far, not many details have been discussed. I believe the Transport Ministry will be conducting a feasibility study about it.

"Perhaps it is still at their technical working level," he said when contacted.

However, Shahelmey said the Sabah government, through the state Railway Department, has been receiving some preliminary proposals for its own train network.

These proposals, which came from local, Indian, and Chinese companies, would cover the rail network on the west and east coasts of Sabah.

"We are studying the feasibility of those proposals. Additionally, we are considering studying the extension line from Tanjung Aru to Sepanggar Port."

The current 15-station railway system covers areas from Sembulan to Tenom.
