RAUB: A man died while trying to escape a fire while his younger sibling suffered burns on his hands after their house at Felda Tersang 1 near here was completely destroyed in a fire today.

Abd Shukur Abdullah Suhaimin, 46, was trying to flee his house during the 1.35am incident but was found lying on the ground behind the house while his 39-year-old brother escaped with injuries.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Dr Wan Mohammad Zaidi Wan Isa said the Raub fire station received a distress call at 1.42am before 15 firemen from the Raub and Sungai Koyan station were deployed to the scene.

"Two houses were damaged with the first unit completely destroyed while the second unit was only 20 per cent burnt. Shukor is believed to have fallen at the back of his house while trying to escape the fire and the medical team tried to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him but failed.

"His younger brother suffered burns to his hands and received treatment from the department's Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS)," he said, adding the fire was brought under control at 2.50am.
