PETALING JAYA: The Defence Ministry has allocated RM7 million to repair and maintain the Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) scheme at the Subang Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin said the amount was used for 185 RKAT homes.

"As we know, the government has allocated RM400 million for the repair and maintenance of RKAT schemes in the budget. Of that, RM69 million was allocated for RMAF camps and bases across the nation."

He added that the ministry paid serious attention to the welfare of the armed forces, especially when it came to their homes.

"We know when they have a good house to live in, these men would not only build a good family environment but would also perform their duties well without worries. Hence, the government knows it's time to have their homes maintained and repaired," he told reporters after visiting the RKAT scheme in Subang.

Present were Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman and RMAF chief General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan.

Khaled later broke fast with people at the Subang air force base and presented welfare contributions to 20 individuals.

The recipients comprise special needs children and chronic patients.
