SEBERANG PRAI: The Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) is set to spearhead a significant environmental initiative, the "24 Hours Planting Challenge: Tree Fest," in alignment with Earth Day celebrations on April 22, the council revealed in a Facebook post on Saturday.

This venture, a brainchild of the collaboration between the Penang State Governor's Charity Foundation and the Exco Office for Housing and Environment, calls upon the citizens of Seberang Prai to actively engage in a large-scale tree-planting effort.

This initiative is part of MBSP's commitment under the Seberang Prai City Council Strategic Plan 2023-2030, aimed at fostering green development and maintaining a clean environment.

It aligns with the broader vision of Penang 2030, which aspires to transform the state into a family-focused, green, and smart state that serves as a national inspiration.

To drive community participation in this eco-friendly cause, MBSP has pledged to distribute trees free of charge to the residents of Seberang Prai, including MBSP staff.

The distribution is scheduled to take place across various public markets and recreational parks in Tasek Gelugor, Penanti, Bandar Tasek Mutiara, Teluk Air Tawar, Bertam, Kepala Batas, among others, from March 2 to April 30, 2024.

Additionally, a special distribution for MBSP staff is planned at the MBSP Tower on April 19. The campaign will commence at 7 am on the scheduled dates, with a note that tree stocks are limited.

The "24 Hours Planting Challenge: Tree Fest" aims not only to enhance the green canopy of Seberang Prai but also to instil a sense of environmental responsibility among its residents.

It encourages community involvement in sustainable practices and highlights the importance of trees in combating climate change, enhancing biodiversity, and improving the quality of life.
