PUTRAJAYA: Full learning sessions will not be conducted in the first week of schooling, said the Education Ministry.

Education director-general Azman Adnan said school management would instead welcome students' attendance and engage their interest in school for that period.

He added that this is the second year the approach has been implemented after it was introduced last year.

"All schools, state education departments and district education offices are expected to manage schools as best as possible, including ensuring readiness with infrastructure involving chairs, desks, textbooks and appropriate programmes for students," he said at the ministry's mandate ceremony marking the start of the 2024/2025 school year, here today.

The 2024/2025 school year for Group A will begin on Sunday, while Group B will start on Monday.

Azman also stated that there is no requirement for canteen operations to shut down throughout Ramadan due to the terms outlined between canteen operators and schools.

"Schools need to organise suitable activities for students during Ramadan and when facing hot weather," he said.
