KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi has called on the government to review the live broadcast of parliamentary sessions and suspend it temporarily.

He said the live broadcast does not benefit the people if they are only shown the poor behaviour of some members of parliament.

"Waste of taxpayers' money. If you see MPs behave like Pendang every day, it's a waste of time. Disgusting and useless.

"Don't allow parliamentarians to use live television to show off, look for cheap publicity, swagger and tell stories like Tasek Gelugor."

He said the live broadcast should be replaced with a special session with MPs who show good behaviour.

"But only invite MPs who have brains," he wrote in a post on Facebook.

Puad was responding to the drama that erupted in the Dewan Rakyat today and yesterday.

Earlier today, the Dewan Rakyat descended into chaos after opposition MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan (Perikatan Nasional-Tasek Gelugor) claimed to have been threatened to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Yesterday, a ruckus broke out in the Dewan Rakyat after PN chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan questioned the government's sudden introduction of a motion of thanks for the king, saying that the opposition was not informed of the matter.

This led to the suspension of Pendang MP Datuk Awang Hashim for four days, which was later retracted by Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
