KUALA LUMPUR: On behalf of Parliament, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated and pledged allegiance to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia.

In his speech at the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar said he was confident the government and the people would be blessed and prosper under the reign of a wise, just and caring king.

"As the core of our constitutional monarchy, I am highly confident Malaysia will be blessed with unity and prosperity under the reign of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim.

"I wish to extend Parliament's heartfelt gratitude and deepest appreciation to Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah and Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who have led the country and the people in the past five years with fairness and wisdom.

"I believe the people felt the wisdom and fairness in ensuring that peace can be enjoyed by all.

"May Allah bless Al-Sultan Abdullah, Tunku Azizah and all members of the Pahang royal family with protection, grace and guidance."

Sultan Ibrahim was elected the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the Special 263rd Meeting of the Conference of Rulers on Oct 27 to reign for a five-year period.

His Majesty was sworn in on Jan 31 in a ceremony steeped in tradition at Istana Negara.
