KUCHING: The Sarawak government has earmarked eight acres of land and RM20 million in funds for Sekolah Menengah Chung Hua No.4 in Kuching to bolster education facilities.

According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), state Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced the allocation aimed at enhancing the school's infrastructure and providing students with more comprehensive facilities.

"The government has decided to allocate five acres of land to the school and another three acres to the school's Trust Board.

Additionally, a grant of RM15 million is designated for Sekolah Menengah Chung Hua No.4 and another RM5 million for their Trust Board," he was quoted as saying by UKAS.

This announcement was made during the Chinese New Year Dinner 2024 and the 45th Anniversary Celebration of the Chinese Association Federation of Kuching, Kota Samarahan, and Serian.

Highlighting the state's economic growth, the Premier said such financial capabilities allow the government to further improve educational facilities for Sarawak's children, including discussions on establishing a new university in the state.

"We are exploring opportunities to collaborate with Fudan University from China.

"Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian is currently in talks with Fudan University to establish a campus in Sarawak, offering our children the chance to further their education at one of the top universities," he said.

Fudan University is among the top five universities in China, and the Premier expressed hope that an agreement would be reached to fulfil this ambition.

The event also saw the exchange and handing over of Land Ownership Rights and the presentation of a 'mock cheque' to the management of Sekolah Menengah Chung Hua No.4.
