KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, reminded members of parliament to observe decorum and to lead by example.

His Majesty said this in his royal address at the First Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament, earlier today.

"I'd like to remind 'Yang Berhormat' (MPs) that the parliament is a place for legislators to legislate laws. And all of you here are legislators.

"And therefore, it would be ridiculous if the legislators themselves fail to abide by the laws that they legislated," the King said.

He added that he hopes MPs would lead by example and demonstrate good character when in parliament.

"Mind your manners, observe decorum and use respectful language– not throw insults at each other.

"Based on what I observed of MPs in the previous (parliament) sitting and the behaviour you displayed, I would be ashamed to even enter this parliament."
