BENTONG: The body of a university student who reportedly drowned when he was having a dip with friends at the Lata Hammer waterfall in Jalan Lama Gombak-Bentong three days ago was found today.

The remains of Muhamad Hafiz Khairul Azmi, 22, was found at 11.50am floating about 5m from the location he disappeared.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said the search-and-rescue operation entered the third day today, with assistance from the department's Water Rescue Team divers and the K9 unit's tracker dogs.

He said the victim's body had been handed over to the police.

Hafiz, who is from Janda Baik, near here, had gone to the waterfall with six friends, aged 21 to 23, around noon on Sunday.

Hafiz is the fifth drowning victim in Pahang since Sunday. Two cases were reported in Temerloh yesterday and one each in Kuantan and Jerantut on Sunday.

Yesterday, a 57-year-old man from Felda Bukit Damar, Lanchang, was found drowned. He is believed to have fallen into Sungai Semantan while fishing in Kampung Kuala Kaung.

In a separate incident, a 47-year-old, who is believed to be mentally ill, was found drowned some 10km from the Sultan Ahmad Shah II bridge. Both victims were reported missing on Sunday.

On Sunday, a Bangladeshi was found drowned after swimming at Pantai Kampung Baru Gebeng in Kuantan with three friends. His remains were found at 4.45pm the same day.

On the same day, Ali Mustaqim Rizman, 12, drowned while swimming in Sungai Tembeling, near Kampung Kuala Sat, Jerantut, at 3.05pm. His remains were found 18m deep in the river about 3.05pm yesterday.
