KUALA LUMPUR: Muhammad Hasnan Hassan was driving his heavily-pregnant wife to a hospital in Johor Baru from Bandar Penawar when she went into labour.

A slight panic overcame him during the 9.30pm incident on Feb 13, so the 34-year-old engineer pulled up to the roadside along the Skudai Highway.

"When I was at the Skudai Highway, my wife's water broke, so I switched on the hazard lights and stopped at the road side.

"I panicked, but before I could fully stop the vehicle, a traffic policeman who happened to be there came over to ask me what happened," he told Harian Metro today.

Hasnan said he explained his situation to the policeman, who is a member of the Johor Baru Utara district police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement division. The cop did not hesitate and asked Hasnan to allow him to be his 'outrider' to go to the hospital.

"The policeman told me to trail behind his motorcycle. I told him we wanted to go to the specialist hospital because they had a check up scheduled.

"He might have not heard my request and we headed straight for the Sultanah Aminah Hospital. But when we arrived at its emergency department, I asked him to take us to the specialist hospital because my wife has been seeking treatment there since the beginning of her pregnancy."

The policemen promptly accompanied the couple to the specialist hospital and waited until Hasnan's wife was admitted.

Hasnan admitted that amidst the frenzy of what happened, he did not have time to chat for long with the traffic policeman. That was why he posted about the incident on social media.

"I did not talk much with the policeman. I uploaded about the incident on Facebook and the policeman's colleagues tagged him.

"From there, I contacted the policeman and asked for his phone number to thank him for his help."

That was how Hasnan discovered that the policeman's name is Corporal Christopher Dennis. He said he was thankful for helping his wife safely deliver their third child- a boy - a few hours after the incident.

"To the police personnel and police officers out there, continue doing your duty with determination. Remember about your core responsibility even when people might be ridiculing you and even if you don't get acknowledged for it.

"One day, there will be people who will need your services, sir, and they will remember you for life," said Hasnan.
