KUALA LUMPUR: The Italian National Agency for the Safety of Flight (ANSV) will aid Malaysian authorities in the investigation into the Gabriel BK160TR aircraft crash in Kapar on Tuesday.

A spokesperson with the agency told the New Straits Times that in compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Annex 13, an investigator has been accredited into the investigation to assist the Malaysian Air Accidents Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

"Please note that, in compliance with the provisions of the ICAO Annex 13, an investigator of the Italian Safety Investigation Authority (Agenzia Nazionale per la Sicurezza del Volo, ANSV) has been accredited in the investigation conducted by the Malaysian authority.

"Any kind of technical support will be provided by the authority and by the technical advisor appointed from Blackshape," it said.

According to the ICAO Annex 13-Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation, states shall investigate or delegate the investigation of accidents which have occurred in their territory.

Annex 13 also stipulates that serious incidents should be investigated by states or by other organisations, such as dedicated accident or incident investigation bodies or aviation service provider organisations.

The ANSV also said that it is evaluating the opportunity of sending an investigation team to Malaysia.

It also added that further information will be released by the Malaysian authority.

Earlier, the Transport Ministry said the aircraft had a valid airworthiness certification under the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) when it crashed on Tuesday.

The ministry said the investigation into the crash would continue to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident with the aim of saving lives and also preventing similar accidents in the future.

It added that a preliminary report will be prepared within 30 days of the incident followed by a full report no later than 12 months after.

On Feb 13, the Gabriel BK160TR aircraft bearing the registration I-POOC crashed in Kampung Tok Muda, Kapar, Klang.

The crash killed two onboard, namely, Daniel Yee Hsiang Khoon, 30 and Roshaan Singh Rania, 42.

Operated by Air Adventure Flying Club, it departed from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, Selangor at 1.28pm for a recreational flight.
